Trent and Mersey Canal east of Willington

The second of several walks along the Trent and Mersey Canal.

A linear walk of about 14 miles (7 miles each way) from Willington in Derbyshire along the Trent and Mersey Canal to Bridge 11a where the Cloud Trail crosses the canal, returning by the same route.

Trent and Mersey Canal at Shardlow

The first of several walks along the Trent and Mersey Canal.

A mainly linear walk of about 13 miles from Shardlow in Derbyshire along the Trent and Mersey Canal to Bridge 11a where the Cloud Trail crosses the canal, then back through Shardlow to Derwent Mouth and Cavendish Bridge.

Crich & South Wingfield

A 7 mile walk based on the Crich walk from Discover Derbyshire and the Peak District web site which visits:
  • Crich Stand, the Sherwood Foresters Memorial
  • Wingfield Manor, an English Heritage property
Instead of starting this walk from the Market Place in Crich it was started from a layby (SK367548) on the B5035 about ½ mile south west of South Wingfield. Walking about 100 yards west along the road, then taking the path to the right along the side of two fields and then turning left through a stile joins the walk at stage 14.

At Crich Stand it's worthwhile taking the path to the north around the edge of the quarry for ½ a mile to the end of the tramway.

Nottinghamshire County Tops

This posting on the Grough web site prompted a walk linking the Nottinghamshire County Tops:
  • Strawberry Bank (natural top at the north-west end of Huthwaite)
  • Newtonwood Lane (natural top on the Nottinghamshire/Derbyshire border)
  • Silverhill (man made top on the Silverhill Colliery spoil heap)
The three tops can easily be done in a circluar walk of about 7 miles from the Teversal Visitor Centre (SK479614).
