Trent and Mersey Canal at Shardlow

The first of several walks along the Trent and Mersey Canal.

A mainly linear walk of about 13 miles from Shardlow in Derbyshire along the Trent and Mersey Canal to Bridge 11a where the Cloud Trail crosses the canal, then back through Shardlow to Derwent Mouth and Cavendish Bridge.
  • Shardlow Car Park in Wilne Lane (SK445304)
  • Trent & Mersey Canal westwards to Bridge 11a near Swarkestone where the Cloud Trail crosses the canal
  • Back eastwards to Weston Lock
  • A detour down Trent Lane to near King's Mills and then north to rejoin the canal near Weston Grange
  • Trent and Mersey Canal eastwards through Shardlow to Derwent Mouth
  • Alongside the River Trent to Cavendish Bridge
  • Shardlow Car Park

Ratcliffe on Soar Power Station and a massive new building - the Marks & Spencer distribution centre on the site of the old Castle Donington Power Station. It's over 28m high (nearly 100 feet), 200m deep and 800m (half a mile) wide.
